Dungeness

Dungeness is the UK's only desert and  is a headland on the coast of Kent, England, formed largely of a shingle beach in the form of a cuspate foreland. It shelters a large area of low-lying land, Romney Marsh. Dungeness spans Dungeness Nuclear Power Station, the hamlet of Dungeness, and an ecological site at the same location.

Dungeness is its rich variety of wildlife and unique plants. Acres of shingle provide the perfect location for Dungeness' nature reserve and it is now a special area of conservation.

A stark landscape with an otherworldly beauty, Dungeness is an unforgettable destination . It's home to the smallest passenger railway in the world, lays claim to having the largest shingle beach in Europe, and arguably serves some of the best fish 'n' chips on the Kent coast.

Dungeness (deriving from Old Norse: 'headland') is situated on the coast of Kent in England and is formed by a pebbled beach in the shape of a cuspate foreland.

You can't swim or sail from here, as there are too many currents, but Camber Sands, with its amazing sand dunes, is just 10 minutes away. We like to take the miniature steam train to the fairground, swim in the pool at the campsite, and then finish the day at the Pilot Inn with fantastic fish and chips.
