Camber Castle
Enjoy a guided tour around this historic castle built by Henry VIII. The ruin is an unusually unaltered artillery fort designed to guard the port of Rye. Camber Castle lies between Rye and Winchelsea.
There is no vehicular access to the castle but it is a one-mile walk on footpaths from Rye. The exterior is viewable at any time but the interior is only open by guided tour. It is managed by Sussex Wildlife Trust - please see the regular opening dates and times.
Sussex Wildlife Trust also include the castle interior on some of their guided walks around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve so visit their website for more information and dates.
How old is Camber castle?
Remaining largely the same condition as it did upon its completion in 1544, Camber Castle is an unusual example of an unchanged 16th century Device Fort, and provides a fascinating look into early modern military architecture.
